About the Artist
My name is Elizabeth Guerry Mead. Friends call me ‘Betsy.’ I was born and raised in Washington, DC and have the privilege of living in my family home with my husband and two dogs! As a small child I was drawn to music and art. My Welsh grandmother played the piano and filled our home with music and singing with her Welsh friends. My father’s family was full of creativity on many levels. My father could create music boxes and rebuild antique clocks; his mother and sisters were creative sewers, and one sister, two great uncles, and a great grandfather were artists! So, I guess you'd say that music and art are in my genes.
I've worked in glass since 2007. The Washington Glass School served as the impetus for my glass obsession. From there, I went to Weisser Glass Studio to refine my techniques. I've taken numerous classes at various locations and with glass “masters.” You're likely to see a panoply of techniques and subjects in my work, which ranges from comical to serious. But typically the juxtaposition of opposites permeates my work: cold steel and glass paired with ballet shoes, or the celebration of dance with the grim reaper. I’ve exhibited at Artomatic and several other galleries in DC, and on the East Coast in Maryland and North Carolina.
I'm a member of the National Capital Art Glass Guild, Glass Art Society, and Del Ray Artisans. I also teach glass workshops at Del Ray Artisans Gallery. I'm happy to share my work with you! Enjoy!
